EDIT Word separator Also called blank or space, this character since the 1960\'s was being used as a visible character for the invisible space between words U+0020 SPACE.

Historically, in the IBM Character Data Representation Architecture it figured as SM670000 SUBSTITUTE BLANK and was used in the IBM Binary Coded Decimal (BCD), e.g. on the IBM 1401 printer. Out of use today.
