EDIT name called "yumušak g" in Turkish

EDIT pronunciation originally a voiced velar or postpalatal fricative.
occurs in intervocalic and post-vowel positions, never in word-initial position.
For practical purposes, it is sufficient to state that when it occours in the neighbourhood of back vowels it doesn't seem to be realized distinctly and therefore is interpreted as a signal to lengthen the preceding vowel.
e.g. dağ "mountain" [da:]
