EDIT Apple Logotype Position for Logotype of Apple Computer, Inc.
In former Postscript fonts, Apple traditionally reserved the position Decimal No. 240 (of MacRoman) for its corporate character. In Unicode, however, this position is reserved for a different character.

EDIT Private Use Unicode on principle does not encode any corporate characters or trademarks. Consequently, Apple Inc. placed the logotype on the last character position in the Unicode Private Use block. As the name suggests, placement of a character in Private Use signifies a private agreement and forms no official part of the Unicode Standard.

EDIT History Known all over the world today, the half-eaten apple was designed as Apple logotype in the beginning of 1977 by Art Director Rob Janoff of Silicon Valley advertising agency Regis McKenna. Originally, a coloured variation including rainbow-coloured stripes deliberately aimed at setting itself off against the plain stripes of Apple\'s then competitor IBM. Since redesigning in 1999, however, the logotype is used exclusively in one colour only.
