EDIT Sheqel In Hebrew, Sheqel is written: שקל

EDIT The symbol \"₪\" is officially called the New Sheqel Sign and has the Unicode code point U+20AA. It has been found in Unicode since June 1993, version 1.1.0. In HTML it can be entered as ₪ or ₪. It can be typed into Microsoft Windows on a standard Hebrew keyboard layout by pressing AltGr and 4 or by Alt + 8362 on a non-Hebrew layout.
The shekel sign (₪) is a currency sign used for the shekel which is the currency of Israel.
The shekel is divided into 100 agorot. Denominations made in this currency are marked with the shekel sign.
EDIT The symbol ₪ (in the usual way the glyph is drawn) derives from a combination of the Hebrew letters ש and ח (in that order, but from right to left, thus, שח), the initial letters of the words for \"New Sheqel\", שקל חדש.

The currency is sometimes written as ש״ח, as an ordinary Hebrew abbreviation, and some fonts (especially handwriting fonts) render this character that way also.
