EDIT End Of Transmission (Ctrl-D) Marks the end of a data stream.

EDIT Modern Usage EOT is used to indicate the end of a file or document.

In Unix, pressing Ctrl-D closes stdin, general causing the currently running program to terminate normally.

In the XMODEM protocol, a single EOT outside of a packet signifies the end of the file.
