EDIT Punctuation The Arabic Five Pointed Star is equivalent to the Asterisk (U+002A).

The five-pointed shape (which is also found for the asterisk in various fonts like Arial Unicode) has two possible reasons. One of them would be that the six-pointed Asterisk would often not print clearly and hence often was replaced by a five-pointed star. Another reason often claimed is that with the deteriorating relations between Arabic and Israeli people the Arabs wouldn’t buy typewriters with the Asterisk a sone of the letters anymore because its shape is reminiscent of the shape of the Star of David.
