BEARBEITEN Römische Zahl Eintausend Dieses Zeichen stand für den Wert 1000, obwohl es auch ein anderes, viel weiter verbreitetes römisches Zahlzeichen für den Wert 1000 gibt: M (siehe: U+216F Roman Numeral One Thousand). ↀ ist eine Ligatur aus den lateinischen Versalien C und D (für 100 und 500).
Da dieses Zeichen den Druckern im 16. Jahrhundert nicht zur Verfügung stand, wurde es im Bleisatz oft als CIↃ gesetzt, siehe Abbildung.
Das umgedrehte C (= Ↄ) findet sich unter U+2183 Roman Numeral Reversed One Hundred.
